I am 28 years old. I was dealing with eczema, acne, rosacea (brought on by a sluggish digestion and subsequent inflammation. Dermatologist wanted to put me on antibiotics), excessive sweating, crippling social anxiety (in part due to how bad my skin had become), panic attacks, horrific PMDD, very heavy periods and recent baseline panel blood test done by my OBGYN had shown that my hormones were completely out of whack. Dr. Barrett came in shortly thereafter and I will start off right away by saying that beyond being extraordinarily kind, wise, accredited and patient, Dr. Barrett is the ONLY medical professional I have ever seen that actually took the time to listen to every last thing that I had to say. I could tell right away that he had really read and studied my paperwork and became familiar with what I had been experiencing. I could tell that he really cared; from the concern in his tone to the questions he asked; most importantly, I could tell that that he really loves what he does. When he told me that he could help, I have to admit although I wanted to be skeptical, I knew deep down that I had come to the right place and for the first time had hope for seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.

Three months later and my skin is GLOWING, eczema is completely  gone, TMJ has drastically decreased as well as the pain it was causing, anxiety is a thing of the past, digestion has improved (by the fact that I can now eat a small snack and not uncomfortably bloat and belch). I recently got another baseline panel blood test for my hormones and my doctor could not believe the results: all of my levels had normalized; my progesterone levels had been restored, estrogen was back down. My PMDD is GONE. I can’t believe how close I was to almost giving up and surrendering to the misery I was experiencing before seeing Dr. Barrett.

Julie:  “Dr. John Barrett is amazing. I’m a scientist w/ a PhD and although Im a strong believer in physical therapy.. I have been skeptical of acupuncture in the past.. however- I am now 100% a believer that it can aid in good health.

I came to Dr. Barrett out of desperation since I had a crazy hive-like rash on my face and neck that started last May 2017 and then flared up and increased in severity in Fall 2018- Winter 2019. In addition to being itchy and hot, it also decreased my confidence (since it was my face!). I had seen many western doctors, including dermatologists, allergists, and general practitioners. I tried allergy medicines,.. I was tested for many food allergies.. and although I have many allergies to pollens/cats/dogs/etc- my food allergens came up negative. So once I exhausted my western resources.. I turned to Dr. Barrett for help… and indeed it helped!

Anyhow- Dr. Barrett talked to me about changing my diet (aka not fasting in the mornings… but instead trying to not eat late at night.. which I still need to be better at).. and eating more cooling foods (Yin) since I was very Yang oriented.. I needed to be more balanced. Although I exercise everyday, he suggested that I also incorporate meditation and/or Qi Gong which I have been now doing for the past couple months. He did cupping, needling and prescribed cooling herbs as well as other herbs to help w/ the allergies.

6 months later I am no longer seeing him (due to the fact I got a bit better and a lack of time- his office is 1 hour away from me.. and I am super busy)- but I have been now following all his advice and have drastically improved.

My only flare-ups occur when I drink coffee (increases my cortisol levels – aka stress).. so I now alas have to stick to green tea.

I also found out from Western doctors via a skin-patch test lately that I have a gold allergy- crazy! and an allergy to a couple chemicals in face products/shampoos/etc. So I have now stopped using those products/metals and hope I can re-introduce coffee to my diet one day.. lol.

Shirley:  “I first went to see Dr. Barrett after taking antibiotics for a week in order to fight the flu. My chief complaint was residual symptoms from the flu that the antibiotics did not seem to help. These were fatigue and difficulty breathing. I could not believe that after one treatment both symptoms were permanently relieved. My second visit to Dr. Barrett was due to lower back pain which I have experienced off and on ever since my pregnancy eight years ago. After one massage my symptoms were permanently relieved.  My third treatment from Dr. Barrett was due to a urinary track infection with blood in my urine and excessive bleeding during menstruation. Normally I would have chosen antibiotics as a preferred treatment, however, he assured me of a reliable herbal solution to be taken in pill form. After day one, the blood stopped in my urine, and after three days the infection had disappeared as well. Additionally, my next menstrual period had decreased from my usual seven days with two days of heavy bleeding down to four days with no heavy bleeding. Wilma J.: I decided to get treated by Dr. Barrett for severe headaches and ringing in my ears. Upon diagnosis, he noted that my blood pressure was 190/ 90. Over the past four years I’ve been dealing with an intense arch pain in my left foot. I was all but ready to give up and just deal with the pain for the rest of my life. One thing Dr. Barrett does that sets him apart from other acupuncturists is his use of stim on my foot and other parts of my body. This increases blood flow to the areas of pain and really makes me feel like I’m getting a lot out of each treatment. He’s not just another acupuncturist.

Wilma J.: I decided to get treated by Dr. Barrett for severe headaches and ringing in my ears. Upon diagnosis, he noted that my blood pressure was 190/ 90. Immediately, Dr. Barrett recommended that I see a doctor for western treatment. He then proceeded to treat me with acupuncture and herbs. During that first week my headaches stopped, and the ringing in my ears was minimal. I also followed up with Dr. Barrett’s recommendation to see a doctor and was given pharmaceuticals to control my blood pressure. Julie H.:  “Dr. John Barrett is amazing. I’m a scientist w/ a PhD and although Im a strong believer in physical therapy.. I have been skeptical of acupuncture in the past.. however- I am now 100% a believer that it can aid in good health. 

I came to Dr. Barrett out of desperation since I had a crazy hive-like rash on my face and neck that started last May 2017 and then flared up and increased in severity in Fall 2018- Winter 2019. In addition to being itchy and hot, it also decreased my confidence (since it was my face!). I had seen many western doctors, including dermatologists, allergists, and general practitioners. I tried allergy medicines,.. I was tested for many food allergies.. and although I have many allergies to pollens/cats/dogs/etc- my food allergens came up negative. So once I exhausted my western resources.. I turned to Dr. Barrett for help… and indeed it helped!

He convinced me that part of my reactions were because I was under severe stress.. and by decreasing my stress levels- my body would be able to react to allergens in a more normal way (yes I would choose itchy eyes or a gentle sneeze every now and then over an intensely red and rash-infested face) 

Anyhow- Dr. Barrett talked to me about changing my diet (aka not fasting in the mornings… but instead trying to not eat late at night.. which I still need to be better at).. and eating more cooling foods (Yin) since I was very Yang oriented.. I needed to be more balanced. Although I exercise everyday, he suggested that I also incorporate meditation and/or Qi Gong which I have been now doing for the past couple months. He did cupping, needling and prescribed cooling herbs as well as other herbs to help w/ the allergies. 

6 months later I am no longer seeing him (due to the fact I got a bit better and a lack of time- his office is 1 hour away from me.. and I am super busy)- but I have been now following all his advice and have drastically improved. 

My only flare-ups occur when I drink coffee (increases my cortisol levels – aka stress).. so I now alas have to stick to green tea. 

I also found out from Western doctors via a skin-patch test lately that I have a gold allergy- crazy! and an allergy to a couple chemicals in face products/shampoos/etc. So I have now stopped using those products/metals and hope I can re-introduce coffee to my diet one day.. lol.

Susie J.,:  “I’ve always been very skeptical when it comes to acupuncture until I actually had it done to me by Dr. Barrett in 2005.  I had “trigger” fingers on both hands and after having surgery to correct the “locking”, the knuckles of my middle fingers on both hands were bruised and would not straighten out.  I consulted Dr. Barrett and he was very positive in his approach.  He didn’t candy-coat anything and was very honest and straightforward about his procedure.  Believe it or not, after 1 treatment, my fingers are now straight and the bruising on the knuckles has been gone a long time.

For the past 3 years, I have been having a problem with tendonitis in my right elbow and have had quite a few cortisone shots over the years to try and remedy the problem. I’m sure I’ll be in pain again, perhaps sooner than later. I know this is just the nature of an injury; it takes time to heal, and anything I get from an hour-long session is just going to be temporary relief. I seldom write reviews but felt compelled to write one on my experiences with Dr. Barrett and his staff in the event that my situation can help even one person out there that feels as hopeless in feeling better, achieving mental lucidity, becoming pain-free and exponentially increasing the quality of their life and the state of their being.

I am 28 years old. I was dealing with eczema, acne, rosacea (brought on by a sluggish digestion and subsequent inflammation. Dermatologist wanted to put me on antibiotics), excessive sweating, crippling social anxiety (in part due to how bad my skin had become), panic attacks, horrific PMDD, very heavy periods and recent baseline panel blood test done by my OBGYN had shown that my hormones were completely out of whack. Shirley:  “I first went to see Dr. Barrett after taking antibiotics for a week in order to fight the flu. My chief complaint was residual symptoms from the flu that the antibiotics did not seem to help. These were fatigue and difficulty breathing. I could not believe that after one treatment both symptoms were permanently relieved. My second visit to Dr. Barrett was due to lower back pain which I have experienced off and on ever since my pregnancy eight years ago.
